Fall Break 2009

When Karen and I got back from Australia and New Zealand, two weeks ago, we were suprised by the how far along into the fall season we were. We could see that some trees had already dropped all of their leaves and others we really begining to show a lot of color. We have continued to walk 2-3 miles almost every evening and have taken several photos that I am posting today. I will get back to Australia and New Zealnd pictures later, but some of these are really pretty neat pictures.

My other motivation for this intermission is to let Clarice and Jon see that we are well into fall here in the good ole' USA and to help them with the shock of going from summer to winter when they come back to the States in late December. We went from spring to fall and that was bad enough.

The next several pictures are of sites along our typical walks, two weeks ago, on the country roads east of our house.

I took these shots along Highway 5 on my way home from work one evening last week.

These pictures were from our walks last week in the evenings.

Over this past weekend we went straight east of our house and down an old county gravel road that has been closed to traffic because it passed through a marsh area that always flooded out the road a couple of times each year. The State Deparment of Natural Resources petitioned to have the road closed and to let the marsh just take over. In the first picture below The road is still is open to vehicles for a ways to a parking area that provides access to the marsh. The next picture is beyond the barricade and the road is beginning to get over grown.

When we got to the marsh that evening the water was calm and reflective and the sunlihgt on the trees really made them colorful.

On our way back with the sunset in our face we got a picture of an old grizzly mountain man and some pretty cool sunset pictures.

By the time we got back to the house the sun was down, but I got this picture of the moom through one of the bare trees. Still kind of interesting.

This next set of photos was taken last night at the end of our lane looking out over the lake. This might be the best sunset I have ever caught. I'm thinking of printing one of these as a poster.

Cool fall pics. We don't have the variety of colors in rural Nebraska. You were really lucky to get a picture of Sasquatch :-)
