Sailing October 18

Oct 18

We hung around Clarice and Jon's apartment most of the morning. Clarice and Mom did a run to the grocery store to restock since we had been away for a week up north. I went for a quit run up the beach and we all met back for lunch.

In the early afternoon we went a few miles north to a harbor and went sailing on a 47 foot sloop with one of the managers from Clarice's work Michael Schaffler and his wife Rebecca.

We sailed out into the ocean a bit and back, which was a 4 hour sail.

We motored out a ways through the moorings of several impressive boats and began to set sail with Clarice at the helm.
After a while Clarice let me drive, which was a lot of fun. I need one of these. There were literally hundreds of boats out that day. Most Were about the same size as the one we were sailing, but there were some smaller ones out racing in class competitions. Some of the crew on board seem to be taking their ship's duties rather casually.

We eventually got out of the harbor area and got to feel the call of the open sea, but reality eventually won the day and we headed back in.

Jon took over as helmsman and the crew broke out in smiles, including the boat owners.

On the way back in we saw lots a great sailing images, several really nice homes overlooking the harbor.
In the end it was a wonderful day of sailing and being in a part of God's creations that is really beautiful. In the evening Karen and I took a walk on the beach at Narabeen and then went back to Clarice and Jon's apartment and looked at some of the pictures I had taken in Australia.
